In order to obtain certification, you need to pass the required National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) exam. NREMT is a non-profit body through which, it is assured that an emergency medical technician is capable of carrying out pre-hospital care to patients.
Responsibilities and/or Daily ActivitiesIs this patient sick or not sick? What are the patient's vital signs?What is the patient's history?How are you going to move the patient?One of the most critical EMT responsibilities is assessing the medical needs of the sick or injured. This must be done quickly and efficiently, especially in serious life or death situations when a minute lost can mean the difference between saving someone or not.

Job Security. Statistics show that jobs in healthcare stay relatively stable even in a bad economy. Healthcare is one of the only sectors that has grown during the current recession. There are lots of other jobs you can perform as an EMT. con: Burnout. Days and nights start to blur together when you’re working 12 or 24 hour shifts. Depending on where you live, and how well your department or company is funded, you might run a significant amount of calls during your shift. |
